How To Catch More Trout With Powerbait
from:Many anglers use Powerbait to help them catch trout, and it's not at all difficult to use as bait. However, there are a few things that can be done to 'tip the odds' in your favor, which are the things that I'm going to discuss in this article. Powerbait isn't difficult to use, but there is one important thing to remember about Powerbait (and any other synthetic trout bait). They float. The fact that Powerbait floats needs to be used to your advantage so that your bait is floating above any underwater debris. In other words, always make sure that enough Powerbait is used so that your offering is floating off the bottom.
Begin by grabbing the end of your fishing line and slipping an egg sinker (1/4 to 3/8 ounce) onto the line. Now tie on a small barrel swivel (size 10 or 12) to act as a stopper and to prevent line twist. At this point tie on a pre tied set of gang hooks (size 8 or 10). For those of you who don't know, gang hooks are simply a pair of small hooks tied in tandem, ready to fish. They can be tied yourself or purchased ready to fish, it makes no difference. Gang hooks allow an angler to present twice as much Powerbait, which is an advantage to the angler.
What you just did was create a basic bottom fishing rig for fishing for trout with Powerbait. Now that your rig is tied, simply add enough Powerbait (or whatever synthetic trout bait you're using) to each hook to completely cover the hooks. So you'll end up with two balls of Powerbait on your rig. This simple rig, which employs a set of gang hooks, will enable you to catch more trout with Powerbait. Simply cast the rig out and let it sink to the bottom. Once the rig is on the bottom, set your rod against something stable and slowly reel in the slack line. You want your line to be completely taught.
Once it's taught, it's time to wait. I usually wait for 30-45 minutes and if I don't receive any bites, I check my Powerbait to make sure its okay. By the way, you rod tip will bounce when a trout is biting. Using this simple rig will enable any angler to catch more trout with Powerbait, or any similar synthetic bait. These baits come in a ton of colors and experimentation is the key to finding your favorite. The color of the Powerbait usually isn't as important as the rig. If you don't receive any bites after an hour and a half, it's probably time to change locations. Again, experimentation is the key. The bottom line is that with this rig, you should catch more trout than you did before using it.
